ADDRI contributes to the global conversation on occupational health and safety

The ADDRI team is proud to contribute to the global conversation on occupational health and safety.  Australia’s world-first ban on engineered stone is making global headlines—and drawing thoughtful responses from across the research and clinical community.

In this newly published commentary, Professor Deborah Yates, Kim Brislane, Jennifer Coles, Dr Elham Hosseini-Beheshti and A/Prof Anthony Linton respond to and commend the recent article by Cavalin and colleagues, “The Banning of Engineered Stone in Australia: An Evidence-Based and Precautionary Policy”, published in the International Journal of Social Determinants of Health and Health Services,  which examines Australia’s historic move to ban engineered stone—a landmark decision grounded in evidence and driven by rising cases of silicosis among workers. It positions the ban as a model for international occupational health reform.

The ADDRI commentary builds on this important work by offering insights from Australia’s frontline: the clinicians, researchers, advocates and families who have witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of dust diseases. It highlights the systemic failures that allowed this epidemic to re-emerge—and the coordinated, multidisciplinary action needed to prevent it from happening again.

It’s a must-read for anyone involved in work health and safety, occupational medicine, public policy or patient advocacy.  Read the full commentary here.
