Section I: Taking action to eliminate asbestos-related diseases

Section one of the asbestos e-Toolkit, ‘Taking Action to eliminate asbestos-related diseases (ARDs)’ includes information, publications and research that can help countries that are considering taking action to eliminate ARDs.

While there are 72 countries that have imposed national bans on asbestos importation, production and use, there are over 120 countries that have still not taken this important step.

A large number of the countries without bans have not experienced problems with historical asbestos use; i.e. never imported raw chrysotile asbestos for manufacturing of products or imported already manufactured products for installation (mostly for construction) so therefore do not have a burden of disease that needs to be addressed.

This International e-Toolkit, builds on the comprehensive 2021-22 e-Toolkit developed by former Research Director for ADRI, Professor Ken Takahashi and ADRI staff at the time.  It also builds on the inaugural Toolkit from 2013, also developed by Professor Takahashi.
