Indo-Pacific Economic Forum – Supply Chain Agreement

In November 2023, the inaugural Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Supply Chain Agreement was signed by 14 countries to enhance cooperation among IPEF partners on supply chain issues.

The IPEF agreement include Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.

Article 2.12 of the IPEF agreement states:

“The Parties intend to cooperate to provide technical assistance and capacity building to prevent asbestos-related diseases and to promote transition from the use of asbestos to safer alternative products in IPEF supply chains.”

The inclusion of moving away from the use of asbestos in supply chains is important given signatories like India, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam remain the largest consumers of chrysotile asbestos across the world.
