Silicosis is an occupational disease caused by inhaling dust containing crystalline silica during work. The disease usually develops after prolonged exposure to dust, causing lung damage and affecting the health and working capacity of those afflicted.
Workers in mining, stone processing, construction, building materials manufacturing, and other sectors that generate silica dust are at high risk. The WHO and ILO recommend workplace dust control, the use of personal protective equipment, and regular health checkups as important measures to prevent the disease.
