Voting for the Patient’s Choice Awards 2026 is now open, running from 6 to 12 July 2026.
The Mesothelioma Support Service at ADDRI deserves recognition for its profound and sustained impact on people facing one of the most complex and confronting diagnoses in healthcare.
Mesothelioma is a rare, aggressive cancer that brings urgent clinical decisions, significant emotional distress and complex legal and compensation considerations. Delivered by a team of experienced registered nurses, it offers personalised clinical guidance, clear navigation of care pathways and ongoing emotional support. In doing so, it ensures that patients and families are not left to navigate an overwhelming system alone, actively supporting more than 300 families across Australia.
The service goes beyond individual care to strengthen the broader health system. Through national education initiatives, including specialist mesothelioma learning modules and the monthly “Meso Hour” program – which sees over 30 attendees each month – it builds capability across clinicians, patients and carers. These initiatives provide accessible, expert-led guidance and create a supportive environment where people can learn, connect and make informed decisions.
Through strong partnerships with healthcare providers, community organisations and support networks, the service contributes to a more coordinated, informed and compassionate approach to mesothelioma care. It is not only improving individual patient experiences – it is shaping a more connected and responsive system for everyone affected by this devastating disease.
