The latest national, consensus-based clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of pleural mesothelioma provides an essential reference for Australian medical practitioners, nurses and other allied health professionals and aims to ensure that all people affected by this disease receive the highest standard of care, regardless of where they live in Australia.
ADDRI assembled a national committee of Australia’s leading mesothelioma experts to write the new consensus-based Guidelines and Recommendations for the Management of Pleural Mesothelioma in Australia. The last guidelines were published in 2013 and a lot has changed since then.
Chair Professor Sonja Klebe and ADDRI Academic and Research Director A/Professor Anthony Linton led the development of these updated guidelines to bring the latest organisation and evidence-based approaches to the diagnostic assessment process for pleural mesothelioma, and to enable tailored treatments for patients.

ADDRI acknowledges and thanks the Committee Members for their expertise and their commitment to bring this vital project to life.

The previous Guidelines were published in 2013 and much has changed.
The Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma was the result of a systematic review of the literature guided by National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) methodology. Recommendations for the management of this asbestos-related malignancy had been made on the basis of the available scientific evidence as at 2013.
For reference only, the previous guidelines are available below.
